    The regional workshop titled "Advancing SDG 15 Monitoring in Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal using Earth Observation and Geospatial Technologies" was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The event was organized by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) with support from the International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS) through the CBAS Global SDG Partnership Programme and the NSFC Sustainable Development International Cooperation Programme Key Project "Development Pathway Decision Support for the Construction of Environment-Society Big Data Platform in Typical Hilly Regions". It was co-hosted by the Ministry of Planning of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics.

    HIST Launches New Phase to Advance Space Technologies for Global Heritage Conservation

    The International Centre on Space Technologies for Natural and Cultural Heritage (HIST) under the auspices of UNESCO will launch its third-phase operation (2025–2033) under an agreement signed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) representing the Chinese government, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and HIST. This marks a new chapter in joint efforts to monitor and protect UNESCO-designated heritage sites through space technologies to contribute to the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and other landmark agreements.

    NSFC-UNEP Program Launched to Unlock Zambezi Basin's Sustainable Agriculture and Boost Africa's Food Security

    A joint program dedicated to promoting agricultural development in the Zambezi River Basin while addressing critical water-energy-ecology challenges officially commenced on April 8, 2025, with the launch of the Agricultural Development Potential & Safe Boundary under the Nexus of Water-Food-Energy-Ecology in the Zambezi River Basin program. Funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the program is led by the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), in collaboration with institutions across Africa and China.

    An international program titled "Global Vegetation Pest and Disease Habitat Monitoring and Risk Forecasting," led by the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has been endorsed by UNESCO as one of 25 inaugural global initiatives under the United Nations' International Decade of Science for Sustainable Development (IDSSD 2024–2033). The announcement was made during the UN's Multi-stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology, and Innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on May 7, 2024, in New York, U.S.

    CAS Institutions Receive 2025 GEO SDG Award for Advancing SDG 15 through Big Earth Data

    The International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS), together with the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR), Chinese Academy of Sciences, have been honored with the 2025 GEO SDG Award for their groundbreaking work leveraging Earth observation (EO) technologies and big data analytics to support Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 15: Life on Land. This marks the first time Chinese institutions have received this international recognition.
