China’s First Comprehensive Service Platform for Flood Early Warning and Monitoring Launched

China's first comprehensive service platform for flood early warning and monitoring, independently developed by the National Earth Observation Data Center (NODA), was launched, according to the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR), Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) and big data technology, the platform is capable of collecting and updating the early warning information released by local water departments at or above the county level in China, and then provides remote sensing images, social media, basic geography and other data support for local authorities to address the major flood disasters took place this year in Chongqing, Beijing, Xi 'an, Yichang and Fuzhou.

Since 2020, the National Earth Observation Data Center (NODA) which is hosted by AIR has organized its sub-centers and research teams to provide thematic summer flood disaster data to disaster reduction institutions such as the Ministry of Emergency Management, the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Ministry of Water Resources.
