AIR Launches National Key R&D Program in Support of 2022 Winter Olympic Games
A National Key R & D Program featuring "Science and Technology in Support of Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics” was kicked off in Beijing on January 7, 2020. The program, which is undertaken by a research team led by Prof. SHAO Yun from the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR), aims to assess the environmental conditions of the training venues, in particular the impact of winds on the performances of athletes, and therefore assist to build an on-site support system.
Specifically, the research team chooses the four venues for snow events for 2022 Winter Olympic Games as observation sites, attempting to know how, and to what extent, that the factor of wind make impact on the training results of athletes.
Research efforts will focus on acquiring detailed information of the winds through massive measurements of wind speeds and directions while training activities are ongoing, combining with wind tunnel tests, hoping to thoroughly understand the “temper” of the winds.
The research is expected to provide scientific support for the Chinese national team to boost their usual performance and to maintain excellence during the Olympic Games.
