GUO Huadong Appointed ISC Fellow

During the World Science Forum held in Cape Town in South Africa on December 5, the International Science Council (ISC) appointed 60 new ISC Fellows who are recognized for their outstanding contributions to promoting science as a global public good.

Prof. Guo Huadong from the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR) under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Director General of the International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS), was appointed among those ISC Fellows. The Fellowship is the highest honor awarded by ISC to those championing science in and for society.

Prof. Guo is an Academician of CAS, also a prominent scientist known for his work in remote sensing science, and interdisciplinary, international cooperation.

He is a recipient of the ISC Science for Sustainability Award and is serving on the ISC Global Commission on Science Missions for Sustainability and President of ISC-China.

He was appointed as a member of the UN 10-Member Group to support Technology Facilitation Mechanism (TFM) for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and has contributed to and participated in international efforts towards sustainability.

He is a leading voice developing Big Earth Data science and applying it to facilitate SDGs from global to local scales through data-driven methods.

As the largest international, non-governmental science organization of its kind in the world, ISC was launched in 2018 following a merger of the International Council for Science (ICSU), which was created in 1931, and the International Social Science Council (ISSC) created in 1952.
