Prof. ZHANG Bing Elevated to IEEE Fellow

According to a recent announcement released by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a total of 282 people across the world have been elevated to IEEE Fellow for the Class of 2020. Prof. ZHANG Bing from the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR) under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has been elected as a Fellow for his contributions to the research of hyperspectral image acquisition and processing.

IEEE is the world's largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity, with more than 400,000 members in over 160 countries. IEEE Fellow grade is the highest level of its membership, as well as a distinction reserved for select IEEE members whose extraordinary accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest are deemed fitting of this prestigious grade elevation.

Prof. ZHANG is a winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and a recipient of several other China’s Talent Programs in support of the country’s S&T leading scientists.  He currently serves as the Deputy Director of AIR, head of the CAS Key Laboratory of Digital Earth, and a professor at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS).

Engaged in remote sensing science and applied research, Prof. Zhang has led more than 20 national or CAS major scientific research projects, and has participated more than ten international aerospace remote sensing experiments.

Among his academic papers, 160 are SCI-cited, and 150 EI-cited. In addition, he has authored ten academic monographs. He is the winner of several S&T Awards, including the Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, the Outstanding Scientific and Technological Achievement Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, among others.
