ISDE Becomes Member of UN-GGIM GS
The International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE) has been accepted as a new member of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management - Geospatial Societies (UN-GGIM GS) on August 7, 2019.
On behalf of ISDE, Executive Director Prof. WANG Changlin submitted the membership application to the president of UN-GGIM GS on August 5. On August 7, Dr. Zaffar Sadiq Mohamed-Ghouse, on behalf of the society, attended the ninth UN-GGIM GS meeting held in New York, at which ISDE was officially recognized as a member of UN-GGIM GS.
The UN-GGIM Geospatial Societies is a coalition of the recognized international organizations involved in the coordination, development, management, standardization of regulation of geospatial information and related matters. It can provide a collective and unified voice regarding geospatial matters to the United Nations and other global geospatial information stakeholders and assist in the coordination of relevant activities between the organizations. UN-GGIM GS currently has a total of eight members (including ISDE), among which the membership includes the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (IEEE-GRSS), the International Cartographic Association (ICA) and the International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) and other renowned international organizations.
ISDE is an international scientific organization headquartered in China, principally promoting the development and realization of Digital Earth concept. ISDE has joined the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) in 2009, and the International Science Council (ISC) in 2017. ISDE’s participation in the UN-GGIM GS is expected to further facilitate to achieve the goals of UN-GGIM GS. And it also can benefit ISDE’s future advancement, in terms of expanding its international think tank and knowledge network, as well as enhancing its communications and collaborations with other international stakeholders in geospatial domain.
