Collaborative Agreement Signed for Powering Digital Sustainable Development Research between CBAS and ICIMOD
On June 11, 2025, during the Second Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange, the International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS) and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on joint scientific efforts for digital sustainable development research. The signing took place at the Forum on Building the Pathway to Innovation Supported by Space Information Technology.
Under the framework of the Digital Sustainable Development Goals Programme (DSP), the MoU establishes a close partnership between the two sides to collaborate on joint research, data sharing, digital platform development, capacity building, scientific networking, and international resource mobilization. The agreement is expected to serve as a model of good practice for open collaboration in international big science programs.
The MoU was signed by Prof. Guo Huadong, Director-General of the CBAS, and Dr. Pema Gyamtsho, Director-General of ICIMOD.
Following the signing ceremony, representatives from both organizations held meeting to further solidify their collaboration. The meeting focused on concrete steps to implement the MoU and mobilize supporting resources, as well as follow-up activities such as staff exchange. The discussion also aimed to build upon the strong foundation established under CBAS’ Global SDG Partnership Program and the NSFC Sustainable Development International Cooperation Programme Key Project “Development Pathway Decision Support for the Construction of Environment-Society Big Data Platform in Typical Hilly Regions”.
Representatives from ICIMOD, CBAS, and the Aerospace Information Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences attended the meeting.
