Chairman of the Board of Kazakhstan “National Center of Space Research and Technology” Visits AIR

Prof. Marat Nurguzhin, Chairman of the Board of “National Center of Space Research and Technology”, Academician of the International Academy of Informatization and the Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, visited the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR) under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) during the week of December 3-9, 2023.
The visit featured a series of exchanges and discussions between the delegation led by Prof. Nurguzhin and the scientists from AIR. The discussions covered various aspects of collaboration, including regular seminars, expert visits, sharing of Chinese satellite data, and the development of scientific satellite constellation. Both parties agreed to promote the establishment of the "Digital Belt and Road" Center of Excellence (DBAR ICoE-Almaty) in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
During the visit, Prof. Nurguzhin had the opportunity to tour the International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS) and engaged in a fruitful conversation with its Director-general, Prof. Guo Huadong.
Prof. Nurguzhin also delivered a keynote presentation entitled “REMOTE SENSING-BASED ASSESSMENT OF LAND DESERTIFICATION IN KAZAKHSTAN IN THE CONTEXT OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS” during the 2023 "Belt and Road" Forum on Digital Earth which was co-hosted by AIR and CBAS.
Expressing gratitude for the warm reception extended by the Chinese counterpart, Prof. Nurguzhin emphasized the Kazakhstani National Center of Space Research and Technology's commitment to fostering collaboration with Chinese counterparts. He eagerly anticipates future visits by Chinese delegations to Kazakhstan, foreseeing collaborative efforts in capacity building, academic exchange, and the establishment of a closer cooperative relationship.
