AIR Holds Digital Arctic Environment Seminar

The "Digital Arctic Environment Seminar on the Sustainable Development Goal 13: Climate Action (SDG13)" was held on May 31, 2022, attended by nearly 40 scientists from the International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS), the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR) under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the Northwest Institute of Eco-Environment and Resources, CAS, the Institute of Atmospheric Physics, CAS, the National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center, the Polar Research Institute of China, the University of CAS, the Nanjing University, the Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

This seminar was supported by the S&T cooperation project "Digital Arctic Shipping - New Data Products and Visualization Services (DARC-SERV)", aiming to promoting further research on the "Digital Arctic Environment" and SDG 13: Climate Action.

The Arctic region has been a research hot topic on climate and environmental change, also a vulnerable area affected by the combined interaction of natural and human activities. It bears great significance for the research on SDG 13: climate action which is described by the UN 2030 Agenda.

Focusing on land, ocean, and atmosphere related to Arctic environment, the seminar discussed such issues as Arctic climate and environmental change, and international cooperation.

The DARC-SERV project is led by scientists from CBAS and AIR, in partnership with the National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center, the Institute of Atmospheric Physics under CAS, the Polar Research Institute of China, and the Northwest Institute of Eco-Environment and Resources under CAS. The Norwegian counterpart of the project is the Nansen Environment and Remote Sensing Center.
