Asia-Oceania Earth Observation Data Capacity Building Training Courses Held in Sri Lanka
From December 9 to 12, 2019, "Asia-Oceania Earth Observation Data Capacity Building Network: International Training Course on Agricultural, Marine and Ecological Environment Earth Observation Data in Sri Lanka" was successfully held in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka.
The training course was hosted by the Secretariat of Earth Observation Organization (GEO) and the GEO China Secretariat, co-organized by the Aerospace Information (AIR) Research Institute under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Arthur C Clarke Institute for modern technologies (ACCIMT) of Sri Lanka. More than 30 trainees from more than 10 government departments including the Agriculture Bureau, Meteorological Bureau, Disaster Management and Control Center, Oceanography Bureau, Land Planning Bureau, and Surveying and Mapping Bureau in Sri Lanka participated in the training.
The National Engineering Laboratory for Remote Sensing Satellite Applications of AIR implemented the training course. This training topics focused on agriculture, marine and ecological environment, and offers courses based on the Information sharing and processing cloud platform (BESTCLOUD) with independent intellectual property rights. The content covering urban environmental remote sensing, agricultural remote sensing mechanisms and methods, marine environmental remote sensing, disaster remote sensing monitoring, and etc. The organizing committee invited more than 10 experts with rich research and teaching experience to teach students. At the same time, practical courses such as software operation have been prepared so that students can better master the relevant knowledge and skills.
Participants reported that the training was rich in content and targeted, and the frontier knowledge and application potential in the field of earth observation were popularized in various aspects. They hoped that in the follow-up work, they will promote and apply the knowledge they have learned in their own countries, and look forward to further international exchanges and cooperation with China in the future. ACCIMT hoped to strengthen cooperation in the future and jointly organize a series of training courses on the application of earth observation to promote the development and application of earth observation technology.
